Google Launches Domain Name Service
Posted on July 7, 2014
Google is entering the domain name business with a new service, Google Domains. Some of the features offered with the service include domain forwarding, branded emails, customizable sub-domains and website building through third-party providers.
Registration for a domain appears to cost $12 according to an image on the site. The cost may vary depending on the type of domain registered. For website building, Google has partnered with Shopify, Squarespace, Weebly and Wix.
Google has not announced a launch date for the service, but says in a Google+ post that the goal is to make the service more widely available soon. Google says its research found that 55% of small businesses still do not have a website, which is surprising. The service can be found at domains.google.com.
