Google Announces Plans to Shutdown iGoogle

Posted on July 4, 2012

Google has announced plans to shut down several services. The most significant service being shutdown is iGoogle. Google says iGoogle will be retired on November 1, 2013. Users who like the iGoogle layout will probably be disappointed by the news.

Google says in a FAQ that "With modern apps that run on platforms like Chrome and Android, the need for something like iGoogle has eroded over time, so we'll be winding down iGoogle on November 1, 2013, giving you a full 16 months to adjust or easily export your iGoogle data."

The service may not have been as needed as it once was but many were using it as a start page. You can still change your display if you use Chrome but changing your browser theme. You can find out how to do it here.
