Automattic to Offer .Blog Domains

Automattic announced that it has secured to rights the the .blog top-level domain. Automattic is the company behind the WordPress blogging platform. It is expected to start offering .blog domains to customers later this year.
Automattic has not yet finalized pricing for the .blog domains. There will be sunrise and landrush periods. Some premium domains will have higher prices than others. You won't need a WordPress blog to get one. The company says in a statement, "And again, the .blog domain will be available to everyone, regardless of what kind of site you have or who hosts it."
Venture Beat reports that Automattic partnered with Primer Nivel for the rights to operate .blog. The purchase price was about $19 million.
