Amazon Acquires Digital Mapping Company UpNext

Amazon has acquired a digital mapping company called UpNext. UpNext offers apps like 3D Cities, which it says provides features like "tappable buildings, detailed venue information, reviews, fun personalization options, and up-to-date subway lines." Here is a video about the UpNext iPhone app.
Amazon will likely use the maps as a feature on its Kindle devices. Perhaps, the maps will be used on Amazon's rumored smartphone.
